Last month Juan Carlos Belloso travelled to Marrakech-Safi to carry out a research for the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) based on the tourism performance of the city and the region Marrakech-Safi, the City Tourism Performance Research of Marrakech.

On-site interviews were conducted with Conseil Régional du Tourisme de Marrakech-Safi (Regional Tourism Council Marrakesh-Safi), Délégation Régionale du Tourisme de Marrakech-Safi (Regional Delegation of Tourism Marrakech-Safi), Délégation Régional de l’Artisanat de Marrakech-Safi (Regional Delegation of Craft Marrakech-Safi), Délégation Régionale de la Culture de Marrakech-Safi (Regional Delegation of Culture Marrakech-Safi), Inspection Régional de l’Urbanisme et de l’Aménagement du Territoire de Marrakech (Regional Inspection of Urban Planning), Wilaya de Marrakech-Safi (province government), Centre Régional d’Investissement de Marrakech-Safi (Regional Centre of Investments Marrakech-Safi), Mairie de Marrakech (Municipality of Marrakech), private companies and other tourism stakeholders to gain further understanding of the city and the region.

Travel Link Morocco offered us the great opportunity to visit a social project located in a small rural village called Agounsane and lead by the Association Assafou pour le Développement, an NGO whose main objective is to is build centers to provide preschool education, fight illiteracy among rural women and encourage rural world preservation. In Agounsane, Assafou has a primary school and a women’s craft cooperative designed to create living wage jobs and to promote social supports and educational opportunities for women.

Likewise, we visited the Centre de Formation et de Qualification dans les Métiers de l’Artisanat de Marrakech, a professional training center which support young people in their professional training and insertion in craft skills.

We’ll share the highlights of the research paper in the coming weeks and we’ll show you the voluntary project that Future Places is drafting to support the wonderful initiatives that the Association Assafou pour le Développement is carrying out in the rural area of Marrakech-Safi.
