Juan Carlos has been, for many years, advisor to the City Council of Barcelona and other city organizations and institutions, and has also provided advisory services to many cities, regions, countries and destinations as well as other place-related organizations worldwide, including Western and Eastern Europe, the US, the Russian Federation, Latin America, Northern Africa, the Middle East and Asia.
Juan Carlos is a founding member of Barcelona Global, a private and non-profit association made up of 100 of the city’s leading companies, research centers, entrepreneurs, professionals aiming to make Barcelona one of the world’s best cities for talent, and economic activity; and of the International Place Branding Association (IPBA), a non-profit independent association of academics and professionals involved or interested in the principles and practices of brand development and brand management for places (cities, regions, nations and destinations).
He is also a member of the advisory board of the Global Cultural Districts Network (GCDN), an independent, international association made of cultural institutions, designated cultural districts, non-profits, foundations, private initiatives, and other organizations who are responsible for conceiving, funding, building, and operating areas in cities with a significant cultural element, committed to improving the quality of urban life through the contribution of the arts, culture and creative industries; expert member at BEST Place: The European Place Marketing Institute, member of the Placemaking Leadership Council and member of the European Cultural Policy Designers Network, among other organizations, and collaborates and participates in different initiatives, forums and programs developed by different international and multilateral organizations including the EU, the UN, the World Bank, the UNWTO or the Inter-American Development Bank.
